Your wedding photos and me

Just a small snapshot of my life

Photography is in my blood. I always loved taking people’s pictures, even as a child, and when I left home I went to Manchester University to study a BA hons in Photography, more years ago than I care to remember now!

After graduating, I trained alongside royal photographer Ian Jones on The Telegraphand the then-art-director at Elle magazine. I then worked in magazines and spent the next 10 years at leading national titles including Cosmopolitan, Ideal Home, Marie Claireand Good Housekeeping. It was an enormously fun and buzzy way to spend my early career, but eventually I wanted a new challenge.

Becoming a local wedding photographer

So 13 years ago, I made the decision to go it alone and specialise in weddings and portraiture portraiture and moved out of London to Bedfordshire, to set up. I’ve never looked back and can honestly say I enjoy my job more and more with each year that goes by. My photography is often published in wedding magazines, and I have to say it’s still a buzz to see it in print and inspiring other brides-to-be.

My time in magazines informed my style today in many ways. I still take photographs that tell a story and will look stunning in good old-fashioned print, as well as on a screen. I always think a printed photograph is the acid test of a successful shot. After all, they need to look as gorgeous on your mantelpiece as they do on Instagram.

At home in Bedfordshire

These days, when I’m not shooting weddings, you’ll find me in and around my home in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, where I live with my husband and our two children.

Being a professional photographer, I’m often asked to bring my camera to sport and music events and I usually have my camera with me wherever I go, capturing aspects of the beautiful and friendly town that I feel very lucky to live in; in Ampthill Park among the heather, where I often take couples for engagement shoot photography, or out in the woods, where I do some of my family photo shoots. There’s never more fun to be had than photographing small children chucking crunchy leaves in the air!

Family, photography and fun

I enjoy photographing my own children, too (when they let me!), but these days they’re leading busy lives themselves. Of a weekend I’m often on a sports sideline, cheering them on, before snatching some family time in one of Ampthill’s gorgeous cafes or restaurants.

Every morning, I take my black Lab, Coco, out for a good run in the park before I settle down to work. I’m a keen runner and she keeps me on my toes; no slacking allowed! I find a bit of fresh air each morning sets me up for a day planning shoots and editing my photos for clients.

As a wedding photographer I’m often working on Saturdays, as is my husband who is a leading international rugby agent and fitness instructor, so time together as a family is limited and precious. Occasionally we’ve been lucky enough to work together and I’ve used my knowledge of the industry to broker deals with magazines such as OK!. When I have some free time I enjoy giving back to the local community and charities with a sponsored run or bake.

I hope that’s told you a little about me. I’d love to meet you, too, discuss my packages and have a chat about your wedding and what you’re hoping for. Do contact me, and I’ll look forward to having a chat with you in person. If you’re lucky, I’ll bring a cake, too!
